Names Making the News

The remains of Army Spec. Alex Jiménez, 25, are identified and readied for return to his family in Queens, N.Y.  He was taken captive when his unit was attacked May 12, 2007, in Iraq’s infamous Triangle of Death.

The Office of Immigration Statistics reports that the number of Mexican immigrants who became citizens increased by nearly 50% between FY 2006 and FY 2007.

The International Court of Justice in Hague rules this week on a request by Mexico that it delay the execution of five Mexican nationals in the United States who claim they were denied consular review.

Nelson Cuba, Mildred Fernández, Carlos Alfonso and Sylvia Iriondo are named regional presidents of the Hispanic Directors Committee of Florida of the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Some 100 demonstrators show up at a bookstore in Tucson to protest the appearance of Maricopa County sheriff  Joe Arpaio as he signed copies of his book. He is known for his tough immigration stances.
